Greetings from the Director,
AHPL is pleased to announce the new Friends of
the Auburn Hills Public Library. A library's Friends group
is a nonprofit organization that provides financial support to the
library through used book sales and other fundraising efforts, as
well as community support through volunteer opportunities.
The Friends meet at the library the fourth Thursday of every month
at 3:00 p.m. -- we would love to see you there! If you can't
make the meetings, you can still support the Friends of the Auburn
Hills Public Library simply by paying annual dues to join.
Stop by the library and pick up a membership form, and you'll be a
Friend in no time.
I'd also like to remind parents of young children about our
wonderful Parent/Child Workshops currently underway. This
annual workshop series is a wonderful opportunity to learn from
child development experts while enjoying some fun play time with
your little one and networking with other parents. Read on
for more details!

Auburn Hills residents are invited to join
This unique program is held only once each year so plan now to sign up for 2010 dates. Begun in 2001, it combines free play between parents and children ages 15-35 months with information you need to raise your busy toddler. Each week features a local professional who is an expert in some phase of child development. After a short formal presentation on their topic, they are then available to answer your burning questions. We provide lots of “imagination only” toys for you to share with your child on these 5 Saturday mornings. Each session lasts from 10:45 a.m. until Noon. Parents register in advance and plan to attend all five weeks.
-
January 30: Dawn Koger, a specialist with Early On at Oakland Schools, will discuss Child Development.
-
February 6: Susan Wit, an occupational therapist, will talk to parents about the importance of play and give some tips for that valuable one-on-one time with your child.
-
February 27: Jennifer Antonelli, a speech and language specialist with the Lake Orion Schools, will focus on the development of language in your child.
-
March 6: Eileen Hohner, a child physical therapist with Avondale Schools will discuss how to keep your children physically fit.
-
March 13: Terry Chase, a nutrition specialist from Oakland County will talk with parents about how to choose foods and other issues related to diet.
If this sounds like a program for you, please call the Youth Services’ Desk to register at 248-364-6712. Program is limited to 25
Auburn Hills families so sign up today. One or both parents may attend.
